Werkstudentin Interview Lena
Series: Our wunschlösers
Hi Lena, thanks for your time!
When did you start here and how long have you been with us?
I started in December 2023. So I'll soon have been here for 10 months. In total, I will stay with wunschlösung for 11 months.
What exactly have you (already) done during your time as a werkstudent with us?
I mainly work in the back office and in the People & Culture department. I take on the tasks in the background that ensure that the programmers can concentrate fully on their core work. In other words, I'm responsible for keeping the place tidy, making sure that everyone feels comfortable in the office, that the terrace looks nice and that the plants are doing well. I also take care of what I affectionately call "snack management" (laughs). I also support the team with research tasks and other things that come up in day-to-day business. But what I like best is event management, i.e. helping to plan and organize the regular team events at wunschlösung.
What brought you to us?
I wanted to gain some experience alongside my studies so that I didn't leave university as a blank slate. I already had a recruiting job in a large corporation and wanted to look at something else. That's why I scrolled through the usual platforms - and didn't find many of them very appealing. Until I found what I was looking for. It all seemed very appealing and approachable, and I liked the way the description was worded. Then I looked at the website and my first impression was confirmed. I then applied and was invited to an interview shortly afterwards. Now I'm really happy to be able to work in a company with a start-up character. We enjoy all the advantages of a start-up mindset without the typical challenges and problems of a very young company.
How were your first few days here? What has changed over time?
I found it very exciting at the beginning because I didn't know what to expect. I remember that it was quite a lot. New programs, new people, new office, it was a lot of impressions. The onboarding day was very intensive and informative - I learned an incredible amount in a short space of time. Over time, I also became more and more confident in using the programs. My gaps have closed and the puzzle has become a complete picture. That, I would say, has changed. It's an ongoing learning process in which I've become more and more confident. You can take on responsibility early on and are given tasks that allow you to grow. I have also become more confident in these tasks.
What does a typical day with us look like for you?
As I'm not here for as many hours due to my studies, my days are shorter than many others. I arrive and say hello, walk through the office and see if there are any problems I can fix. If there are any, I take care of them, of course. Then the laptop opens and I check emails, answer inquiries and take care of the team and current tasks. Then it's time for the daily, where we coordinate and plan our day. My tasks are very diverse, it's a very varied job.
Did you have a favorite task?
Everything to do with the roof terrace. It's a feel-good place and I like to take care of it. Preparing meetings, harvesting herbs, planting plants … it's fun to spend time there and look after the terrace.
What's next for you?
Unfortunately, my time at wunschlösung is now coming to an end. I'm going to Vienna next semester to do my Master's in Applied Economics. Apart from that, everything is still quite open as to how things will continue for me (smiles).
And finally, why wunschlösung and not another company?
I wanted to get a taste of an agile company. And I really noticed how I felt the need to be more than just a small cog in a big company. And I wanted to join a great team that is passionate about what it does. I felt that wunschlösung offered the best opportunities. I found the wunschlösung website very appealing and this was also confirmed when working with the people here. I have no regrets about staying here for so long. In fact, I would have liked to stay longer. The interaction is pleasant and friendly. The founders care about the opinions and well-being of the employees. The people here work hard, but not to the point of absolute exhaustion. The agile team has also proven to be true. I really like all the people at wunschlösung (smiles).
