Team Interview Wojciech (Frontend-Dev)

Series: Our wunschlösers

Who are we and what happens here? There is already some information on our team page. But that only answers who works for us, not what our team does. That's why we want to give you some more detailed insights. To do so, we talked to a few of our colleagues. Today we introduce you to Wojciech.

Hi Wojciech, good to see you!

How long have you been with wunschlösung and what exactly do you do?

I've been working on wunschlösung for about eight months now. My job is to build the UI, i.e. the user interface. I'm responsible for the visual representation of data. If you go to a restaurant and want to order, I'm the person who builds the menu and makes sure that you can see and understand what we offer.

How does your work fit into wunschlösung?

That's a difficult question (smiles). We build individual software here. It has to be represented graphically, i.e. made 'tangible'. I'm responsible for that. I work a lot with code and actively develop it. But I'm also involved in the design. I also communicate with our customers and take care of the implementation of their wishes. And I do a few things that have nothing to do with software. For example, I look after the plants in the office (laughs).

What actually brought you to us?

That's a longer story. I came to Germany to be with my partner, now my wife. I started taking German courses here and took part in integration training. When I felt ready, I started looking for jobs. I found what I was looking for online. I was interested in the offer as a whole, but there was one small detail that particularly caught my eye. In the middle of the text it said something like "If you've read this far, please mention the dandelion" and I thought that was great. The fact that someone had thought this through and found such a personal way … I immediately thought it must be a cool company and applied straight away. After a short and quick interview phase, I was already hired.

Do you remember your first days here? What was it like?

Everything around me was new. My language level wasn't that high yet - I understood the things around me, but I couldn't express myself well yet. It was all a bit much. At the same time, I was absolutely surprised that there were no difficulties or problems with anyone because of this. Everyone was super friendly straight away. I felt a bit lost at the beginning because of the language barrier, but on the other hand I immediately had the feeling that everyone was looking after me. I really couldn't have wished for anything more, because I received a lot of support and was guided through the process really well. There were lots of new things for me to learn. In retrospect, it was one of the most exciting and instructive experiences for me since I came to Germany.

What does a typical day in your life look like?

I usually drive my wife to work in the morning. The wunschlösung doesn't require me to start early, but it gives me the option to do so. And it works very well with my routine. I'm grateful for the flexibility because it allows me to work when it suits my schedule best. I usually start around 7:30 am. I look at what I did the day before and what still needs to be done. A lot of what I do is an active development process and therefore has to continue for days. It helps to prioritize, structure and plan things beforehand. I spend about 15 minutes on this. Then I sit down to work on the open topics. Later in the day, the daily with the team takes place and everyone comes online. We receive new work assignments, tickets and requirements and can coordinate and plan together. This part of the day is more flexible and depends a lot on the workload. I enjoy working with my colleagues. It's especially fun when we're all in the office.

Privately, I like going to the gym. It's a good balance to sitting while programming and my way of looking after my health. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle, flying drones and playing with my 3D printer. Of course, I also have small side projects where I can continue to learn and develop my skills as a developer outside of work.

What do you want for the future?

I hope that the company will continue to grow. I think the project we are currently working on is very cool. The marketplace topic is exciting and has so much potential! It brings a lot of changes to the way we work and think. All the things we can develop, the opportunities to grow … it's just great, and it's fun. I know that sounds like I'm advertising the company, but I genuinely mean it.
Outside of wunschlösung and for me personally … I would like to be even more broadly positioned than 'just' with Angular. We also do a lot of fascinating things in the backend, and there are so many exciting technologies that I want to learn more about and look into. I haven't been able to touch that much yet. But in the long term, I definitely want to expand my knowledge in this direction.

And finally, why wunschlösung and not another company?

Mhm. That's also a complex question. Firstly … The logo just appealed to me. It's … well, not necessarily cute, but so … personal. You know immediately when you see something like this that the people here have a vision and a dream. You're not selling yourself to a big corporation where you're just a number, a bucket into which tickets are thrown without anyone being interested in the bucket. It's so human. That personal touch along with the text about the dandelion in the job offer … that's when it clicked for me. I also share many of wunschlösung's values and views. And I like the people at wunschlösung. My application process was quick, efficient and professional. And I liked the fact that it was clear from the start that the people here know a lot and are happy to share it. The team is both friendly and competent. I quickly realized that I could grow and develop here.

Thank you, Wojciech!
